Flame colour
Healthy gas burns crisp blue. Yellow, orange or lazy flames mean it isn’t burning cleanly.
Soot & staining
Black or brown marks around an appliance, or above a heater, are a classic sign of incomplete combustion.
How you feel
Headaches, dizziness or nausea that ease when you leave the room can be carbon monoxide. Take it seriously.
Pilot & age
A pilot that won’t stay lit, or an appliance 10+ years old and never serviced, is worth a professional check.

Is this a real gas inspection?
No — it’s an indicative self-check to spot warning signs. Only a licensed gas fitter with the right instruments can confirm your gas is safe.
What is carbon monoxide?
A colourless, odourless gas produced when gas doesn’t burn cleanly. It can make you unwell and, at high levels, is dangerous — which is why yellow flames and soot matter.
Do you do the gas work too?
Yes — our gas work is carried out by licensed gas fitters (AS/NZS 5601.1). We’ll inspect, explain what we find, and quote before any work.
What if I can smell gas right now?
Don’t use switches or flames. Turn off the gas if you safely can, get everyone outside, and call 000 and your gas distributor’s emergency line before anything else.
